    Introduction to OECD 301D

    The OECD 301D test belongs to a series of tests developed by the OECD to assess the ready biodegradability of chemical substances under aerobic conditions. Screening with the Closed Bottle Test. This simple and inexpensive screening technique uses BOD as an endpoint and quantifies how much of a test material (a potential aquatic toxicant) is degraded in an aquatic environment (e.g., lakes, rivers, and ponds) during its 28-day exposure. The test is especially appropriate for substances that are highly soluble, volatile, adsorbing, and poorly soluble.
