Introduction to the Baume Scale

The Baumé scale is hydrometric, which is employed to measure the density of some fluids to estimate specific gravity relative to water with industrial chemicals, beer and wine, and food processing. There are two distinct scales: one with a Baume reading in the range of 0° to 10° where the liquid is lighter than water and the other with Baume readings of between 0° and 20° where the liquid is heavier than water. Baumé scale is quite effective in determining the concentrations of the liquids in the form of the formulation scale and consistency in different uses.

Instrumentation of Baume Scale 

Instrumentation includes a Baumé hydrometer which is a glass-calibrated instrument used in measuring the density of the liquid with the help of floating it in the liquid. A hydrometer is related to a measuring cylinder or flask that holds the liquid sample so that the hydrometer floats in the liquid without coming into contact with the wall of the cylinder. The density measurement can also be influenced by temperature and a thermometer might also be employed to take that reading. Also, a hydrometer stand or holder can be used to hold the instrument in the right position while observing the surface of the liquid to be measured to get the right readings.
