ASTM E1725 Standard Test Methods for Fire Tests of Fire-Resistive Barrier Systems for Electrical System Components

    ASTM E1725 is a standard test method that covers fire-test response and provides information on the temperatures recorded on the electrical system components within a fire-resistive barrier system during the period of exposure.

    ASTM E1725 Sample Preparation Guide

    A construction site consisting of electrical system components and a fire-resistive barrier system is tested using ASTM E1725.

    What are the Testing Procedure and Requirements for the ASTM E1725?

    In ASTM E1725, the average air temperature inside the fire-resistive barrier system at the beginning of the test is not less than 50°F (10°C). Test equipment and test assembly undergoing the fire test from any condition of wind or weather that might lead to abnormal results need to be protected. In the fire test method, after the first 10 min, the furnace pressure is controlled so as to position the neutral pressure plane. The test is continued till the desired evaluation period is reached, the conditions of performance are satisfied, or failure occurs. Temperatures and furnace pressures are measured and reported at intervals not exceeding 1 min.

    Analysis Results and Interpretation

    ASTM E1725-19 provides details about the fire-test response, including information on the temperature points recorded on the electrical system component within a fire-resistive barrier system during the exposure period.

    A function of thermal conductivity, density, and specific heat, ρkC, is calculated in ASTM E1725-

    Where:

     k = the material’s thermal conductivity,

    ρ = density, and

    C = specific heat.
