ASTM E1418 describes the water-washable method for visible liquid penetrant evaluation. Applying a liquid penetrant uniformly over the specimen’s surface and letting it penetrate open discontinuities are the steps of the method. Following a dwell period, excessive penetrants are removed. A developer is used to bring out indications, and the surface is visually inspected in adequately illuminated conditions to identify any surface discontinuities. MaTestLab is one of the best testing service providers, with the best network of testing laboratories in the USA to carry out ASTM E1418 tests for our clients. ASTM E1418 can be used to find porosity, seams, and other open surface discontinuities in a variety of materials. The standard offers specifications for processing parameters and testing qualifications for employees and developers.
ASTM E1418 Test Method
The method proceeds as follows:
| Apparatus Setup | Metallic (both ferrous and nonferrous) or nonmetallic materials (ceramics, certain plastics, and glass) evenly coated with a liquid penetrant |
| Measurement of Discontinuities | Application of liquid penetrant is done, and excess penetrant is removed. A developer is applied, and a visual inspection under adequate illumination is done. |
