ASTM D4671 is the standard test method for measuring the degree of unsaturation in polyether polyols used to manufacture polyurethane. In base-catalyzed propoxylation, small quantities of allyl-ether (mono-functional) species are also formed, and ASTM D4671 measures unsaturated groups by the titration of mercuric acetate.
