Reference radiographs depict the various types and degrees of discontinuities seen in aluminum castings, such as shrinkage, porosity, inclusions, and cracks.
The reference radiographs are used as a comparison tool to determine whether the flaws discovered in actual casting radiography pictures fulfill the stipulated acceptance standards.
ASTM E505 Test Method
The procedure for using the ASTM E505 reference radiographs involves the following steps:
