The ASTM D75 was established to ensure the proper and representative sampling of aggregate materials used in construction projects. On the one hand, aggregate properties may differ as a result of improper handling, segregation, or environmental effects, making it necessary to employ consistent sampling approaches to ensure the reliability of testing. In early source testing, initial quality control of production, site surveillance, and determination of acceptance or rejection of materials all use such practice.
ASTM D75 Test Method
| Sampling at Source | Pans, templates, or shovels are used to collect samples from compositionally mixed streams, conveyor belts, or even stockpiles. |
| Sampling from Transport | Either the truck or railcar sample must conform to the site plan; the sample may be provided by shovel or machine to access various depths and prevent segregation. |
