ASTM C1326 covers the determination of tensile strength under uniaxial loading of monolithic advanced ceramics at ambient temperatures. ASTM C1326 addresses various suggested test specimen geometries as listed in the appendix. Additionally, it covers test specimen fabrication methods, testing modes, testing rates, allowable bending, and data collection and reporting procedures. ASTM C1326 primarily applies to advanced ceramics that exhibit isotropic, homogeneous, continuous behaviour. While intended for monolithic advanced ceramics, certain whisker- or particle-reinforced composite ceramics, as well as certain discontinuous fibre-reinforced composite ceramics, may also meet these macroscopic behaviour assumptions.
