    ASTM F1970 Testing Procedure and Requirements

    In the ASTM F1970 standard (Standard Specification for Special Engineered Fittings, Appurtenances or Valves for use in Poly (Vinyl Chloride) (PVC) or Chlorinated Poly (Vinyl Chloride) (CPVC) Systems), the dimensions of the seal must conform to the manufacturer’s standard design specification and tolerances. The seal must be designed to apply a sufficient compressive force to the mating parts after assembly, ensuring a positive seal under all possible combinations of fitting and seal tolerances. Sockets must match the dimensions of the fittings that correspond to the pipe size being joined. When measuring thermoplastic threads using gauges, the tolerance must be 61.5 turns. When measuring metallic threads using gauges, the tolerance must be 61 turns. Fittings must meet the minimum standards for hydrostatic pressure resistance. Valves must be tested for conformity in both open and closed positions. Valves that do not have a specific flow direction must be checked in the shut-off position in all potential flow directions. The 1000-hour test on the valves must be undertaken only in the open (shell test) configuration at operating (test) temperatures over 145°F (63°C).
