ASTM E648 provides a controlled and repeatable method of identifying fire-spreading characteristics of flooring under conditions of a developing fire, including a source of radiant heat. The floor-covering material is of utmost importance in fire safety, particularly in escape pathways where the conflagration of flames can be a threat to the occupants. Building and fire codes have become a staple of building safety standards, and regulating bodies, manufacturers, and designers can no longer afford to overlook building and fire codes.
